Training and Demonstration On Orchid Culture and Care Growing – 20th May 2023

The Orchid Society of Karnataka (TOSKAR) will be organizing a training program in growing orchids and it’s care and culture. The growing of orchids is not difficult, but the key to your success lies in understanding their specific requirements. The sessions will prepare and help you to understand the finer points of orchid growing.

This Training and Demonstration program is designed with the objective of introducing various aspects of orchid growing to the beginner along with some of the specific requirements of popular genera under cultivation in India and more specifically in Bangalore. This will be imparted through lecture, ‘demo’ and ‘hands on’ about various cultural aspects.

The sessions are scheduled as below,

SCHEDULE

SESSION – I

1. Introduction to orchids, unique features of orchids, cultural requirements in terms of light, water, temperature, humidity, aeration across genera and alliance

1115 to 1215 hrs.
Speaker: Mr. Suresh Kalyanpur

2. Cultural requirements (Continued) – containers, potting, potting media, nutrition, pests and diseases and wherever required hands on Demo will be shown

1215 to 1315 hrs.
Speaker: Mr. Sriram Kumar

BREAK: 15 Mins. Coffee & Snacks

SESSION -II

Growing of Phalaenopsis: Introduction to the genus and its alliances. Cultural requirements and tips for better culture and flowering. Covering aspects of light, temperature, water, humidity, aeration, potting, nutrition, pest and diseases. Along with demo wherever required

1330 to 1430 hrs.

Participants will be given a kit containing literature on general orchid growing and on Phalaenopsis. Each participant will be provided with a Phalaenopsis seedling in the kit.
